Apple Distinguished School

We are pleased to be recognised as an Apple Distinguished School for 2015 - 2021 for our implementation of the ‘Start Young, Start It Right Programme - Curating My Learning’ and ‘Ready for Tomorrow - Orientation to My Future Learning’.
Our Story
Canberra Primary School, located in the township of Sembawang in northern Singapore, has established itself as a choice school since its inception in 2000. Affirming the school’s innovative practices and programmes, Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE) invited it to participate in the FutureSchools@Singapore initiative in 2012. In line with this, the school identified the use of mobile personal learning devices (PLDs) as a technology enabler to deliver the school’s learning outcomes. Having entered the ninth year of its 1:1 learning programme using iPad, Canberra Primary School continuously strives to enhance its innovative teaching and learning environment.
Vision
Canberra
Primary School believes that every Canberrian can succeed, regardless of the
child’s starting point. This belief has been instrumental in shaping the
culture of the school as well as the teaching and learning experiences,
collectively known as the Canberra Experience.
Learning
To
actualise the Canberra Experience and deepen students’ learning processes, the
school has advanced the Canberra Experience Plus to take learning to a
different dimension, helping every student to achieve his/her potential, giving
him/her wings to soar to greater heights, and confidently face new challenges.
The Canberra Experience Plus journey focuses on the holistic development of
every Canberrian, providing opportunities for all of them to further their
interests and develop their unique talents.
Rigour,
Splendour and Fulfilment have been identified as the three key constructs of
both the Canberra Experience and the Canberra Experience Plus, enabling every
Canberrian to journey and become a Discoverer, an Attuned Learner and a Global
Learner.
Success
Being actively involved in connected learning and global learning enables Canberrians to be delightful digital learners who are ready to take on the challenges of the future.
Canberrians as
Connected Learners in the Academy of Play (AOP)
Canberrians’ connected learning experiences are based on six design principles. As a result, they experience learning that is not only social, but also participatory, interest-driven and relevant to the opportunities of our time. A prime example of how Canberrians can thrive as connected learners is through the AOP, a developmental programme with multiple tracks covering coding with drones, and design and art through 3D design and printing. These tracks are selected as they represent key aspects of the 21st century competencies in a future working environment around the technology field.
Global Learning, the Canberra Way
To
enhance connected learning experiences, as well as to actualise the outcomes of
the Canberra Experience Plus, the school has deliberately sought opportunities
for collaboration with schools and organisations beyond Singapore. This form of
global learning has enabled Canberrians to not only know the world (Attuned
Learner), but also be global citizens (Discoverer) who can play a part in
creating the world (Global Learner).
What’s Next
Technology
is a key enabler in enhancing the way students live, work and play. It can help
to transform classrooms, modify and even redefine learning tasks to create new
learning experiences that were previously inconceivable.
