Our School Leaders' Message
Celebrating Our Legacy, Shaping New Horizons
Warmest greetings from all of us at Canberra Primary School!
As we reflect on 2024 and look forward to an exciting year ahead, we are extremely thankful for our team of dedicated staff, supportive parents, as well as students whom we have the privilege of educating. As a school community, we celebrate the strong performance of our 2024 Primary Six graduands, who have done us proud by performing well at the Primary School Leaving Examination. We wish them all the very best in their endeavours as they embark on an exciting new phase of learning in their secondary schools.
This year, Canberra Primary School celebrates its 25th Anniversary and the theme for 2025 is ‘Celebrating Our Legacy, Shaping New Horizons’, one that allows us the opportunity to honour our past and look forward to new beginnings. In the course of the year, events like our 25th Anniversary Musical and opening of our Heritage Gallery will provide the school community with opportunities to come together to celebrate our school’s legacy and future. We will provide more details in due time and look forward to your support.
Following a period of review and consolidation, we are also happy to share that we have refreshed the school’s directional statements:
Every Canberrian a Discoverer, Learner and Leader
To provide a quality holistic education which fosters lifelong learning in the pursuit of excellence
Encapsulated in the acronym ICREST
A Citizen with Integrity, Care and Respect who strives for Excellence through Self-discipline and Teamwork
We will continue to ensure our school’s programmes are geared towards ensuring Canberrians are developed holistically and equipped with the knowledge, skills, values and dispositions that are essential in the 21st Century. For our Applied Learning Programme in Digital Making, ‘Start Young, Start It Right – Curating My Learning’ provides our Primary 1 to 4 students with a connected learning experience through the integration of ICT in authentic learning settings. Varied learning experiences, such as coding, are also curated to help them acquire critical thinking skills. In Primary 5 and 6, ‘Ready for Tomorrow – Orientation to My Future Learning’ continues their technology-enabled applied learning with a focus on production and leveraging digital media and communication elements to engage and influence, allowing them to discover their interests and talents, develop life skills, a sense of curiosity and a love for learning.
Likewise, our Learn for Life Programme ‘Immersing in Canberra Experience through Musical Theatre Education’ allows students to explore issues and emotions, develop empathy for the experiences of others and explore diverse perspectives as we prepare them to become more confident, creative and collaborative individuals.
To better support our students in learning, we have been upgrading our facilities to create a more conducive and vibrant learning environment. Some recent improvements made include refreshing outdoor learning areas such as the Green Wonderland and Mushroom Loft. Moving ahead, we will look into enhancing the school environment to optimise learning and provide opportunities for students to explore their creative talents, and to build their social and emotional competencies.
We look forward to working with our stakeholders, such as our Parent Support Group, School Advisory Committee and parents, to support the growth and development of our students in their pursuit of excellence.
